Describe the existing roof
Share roof area, material, and the number of layers being removed. Underlayment, damaged decking, flashing, and packaging also contribute to the load. A contractor’s material estimate is a better starting point than choosing a container from the roof’s appearance alone.
Put weight ahead of empty space
Shingles and other roof materials can be dense. Confirm the included weight, maximum loading instructions, and whether a separate stream is needed for tile or slate. A partly filled container may still be at its allowable weight.
Agree on a practical drop zone
Coordinate placement with the roofing crew and property owner. Maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle access, and discuss protection for landscaping and hard surfaces. Nobody should stand in a debris drop zone or use the container as a platform.
Plan final cleanup and retrieval
Leave room for the crew to gather loose material before pickup. Follow the contractor’s ground-cleanup process for nails and sharp fragments. Keep the approach clear and notify the rental team if weather or hidden roof damage changes the completion schedule.
